Since September 2008, the standards in learning, development and care for children from birth to five have been set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines. The EYFS is part of the government’s National Strategies from the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
These guidelines define the principles with which children should be nurtured during the critical first five years.
